No other date is given than 1942 on the title and copyright pages and at the end of a gift inscription. The cover has brown cloth with black letters and an illustration. A color illustration is on every page. The name and illustration of Curious George first appears in the character list on p. 2. The ends of the spine strip are frayed. All but one board corner is threadbare, up to a linear 1/2 in. The top end of the front board has a 1/8 in. and a 1/4 in., threadbare spot. Light fading and stains are along the top end of the back board. About a third of the pages have small stains, mostly faint. A 1/4 in. and a 1/2 in. closed tear on bottom margins are tipped back together with glue. The front FEP has an area where pencil scribbling was erased, but remains faintly visible.
