FIRST EDITION. 12mo. (15.5 x 10 cm). pp.vii+8-108. Original grey cloth stamped in blind and decorated in gilt, adverts to endpapers. 20 black & white diagrams. Lightly toned, generally an excellent example in the original cloth. The motive of the following book according to the preface is "simply to teach you how to master and comprehend the principles of the beautiful and scientific game of draughts" (preface). The New York Clipper, also known as The Clipper, was a weekly entertainment newspaper published in New York City from 1853 to 1924. It covered many topics, including circuses, dance, music, the outdoors, sports, and theatre.
