Limited edition of 100 numbered copies for sale printed on handmade paper. Quarter vellum and red boards, top edge gilt, others untrimmed, 4to, 27 cm, xxxi, 357, [1] pp, frontispiece and 7 collotype plates, title vignette (coloured coat of arms). A translation of the latter part of the original Latin manuscript. Includes an introductory essay "Authorship of the Chronicle of Lanercost, by the Rev. James Wilson". From a contemporary review by H.H.E. Craster: "[Maxwell's] translation is well executed ; the verses with which the chronicle is interspersed are vigorously and ingeniously rendered ; and the work is published in the fine style which we have learned to expect from Messrs. MacLehose, and is illustrated with good collotype views of some of the northern monasteries." Copy No. 13. Corners slightly rounded, one corner bumped, boards slightly rubbed, browning to enpapers and recto of limitation page, otherwise Near Very Good.
