Item description from seller

Le Cirque, by Jeanne Cappe, Illustrated by de Santa Rosa, pub. Desclee de Brouwer, Paris, [1938] 1st ed. Text in French, seven full page colour illustrations, one double page. Large quarto 320 mm x 290 mm approx. Stiff card covers with wear to corners and edges, some soiling, scratches and marks to rear board and a small closed crack to rear panel. The binding is solid. Within, a few fingermarks to the page margins, some even show through of the boards through the paste downs front and rear where the paper has thinned. No inscriptions. Really, a very decent example of an exceptionally rare title with wonderful, vibrant, colour lithographs evocative of the inter war period. The story, too, is a touching and charming one; a small boy, son of a circus owner dreams of being an architect, but comes by the end to see that his destiny lies with the family business of circus. The whole thing is a delight.
