(Toronto, Ontario, Canada: Anansi 1970). First HARDCOVER Edition in Second Issue D/W. Rare hardcover, First Issue without "first edition" statemement. Some light foxing to top edge of text block, else about fine in second issue D/W with the "Winner of the Governor General's Award" printed on the upper cover. The D/W has one small closed tear to the rear panel but is otherwise a near fine example. Among the scarcest Ondaatje items. The rarity of this title in first issue boards can be explained by the flood at the publisher around the time of the announcement of Ondaatje's GG win which destroyed "almost all" of the remaining hardcover copies of this book.
