New York, Frank Tousey, 1889-1904. First edition, first impression. Paperback. Around 60 issues, mostly 1903 and 1904. A fantastic collection. Frank Reade Jr. is the protagonist of this influential and popular US pulp series. His adventures pretty much always involve futuristic machines which often make up the titles of the tales: Frank Reade, Jr. Among the Cowboys with his Electric Caravan; Frank Read, Jr's Electric Air Canoe; Frank Reade, Jr's Magnietic Gun Carriage. The cover art is universally superb. Additionally there are four earlier Reade related items, including an 1892 issue of Frank Reade Library, an 1892 issue of The Boys' Star Library and two issues of The Five Cent Wide Awake Library from 1889 and 1892. The condition varies from near fine to poor, with the majority in the very good band. Flaws include detached covers, areas of loss to covers, tape repairs, areas of loss to entire issues, heavy chipping to leaves (due to the cheap paper), creases and tears. Basically, everything you'd expect. I'd say most are presentable. The pictures show examples of the best and worst copies. The magazines are fragile, and fall apart and chip pretty easily.
