Noel Broxholme, 1689-1748, physician to the Prince of Wales and member of the College of Physicians, committed suicide on 8 July, 1748. This work contains 196 recipes for medical treatments: their Latin names, purpose, and remarks on dosages, suitable substitutes, and different methods for making the medicines are also recorded. Treatments listed include an electuary against a gonorrhea, a gargle for a cancerous mouth, a draught for the scurvy, the pill against the French pox, a sleeping pill, a potion against the gout, the antivenereal tincture, and many others.
