[James Bond] FIRST EDITION. Octavo (19 x 14cm), pp.255 [1]. Cartographical endpapers at rear. Elegantly hand-bound in half green calf over matching cloth sides, spine gilt-lettered in six compartments with raised bands, publisher's original titled cloth spine bound in at rear, top edge gilt. Near fine. The first post- Ian Fleming James Bond novel, written under a pseudonym by Kingsley Amis, who had edited Fleming's final 007 story for posthumous publication in 1965. This copy is from the Ian Fleming Bibliographical Archive assembled by Jon Gilbert, with his pencilled ownership to endpaper. His comprehensive guide to the works of Ian Fleming (2012) won the 16th Breslauer Prize for bibliography. Gilbert, page 612, see also Appendix A, page 634.
