First Dublin edition. Octavo. Title page, Dedication and Preface, 84 pages of Preliminaries, then 612 pages and 4 of Index. The book is firmly bound in recent, probably late-twentieth century, dark brown calf, lettered and simply decorated in gilt and blind, the leather is slightly rubbed and marked. The text block is slightly foxed, marked and age toned, to varying degrees, with numerous dog-eared page corners, minor damage to some page edges, and a larger chip to the fore-edge of PP7, without loss of text. From the archives of the RSA Insurance Group with their barcode strip to the front pastedown. An alphabetically arranged guide, focused chiefly on marine insurance, though covering all aspects, including sections on piracy, smuggling and slavery. The latter handled briefly and dispassionately, the main entry filling less space than that devoted to the subject of the ship's anchor, though also referred to under other headings, including Commodity and Goods.
