The Conditions of Economic Progress (later revised in 1951 and extended in 1957) "argued that progress involves shifts from primary into secondary and tertiary sectors, and he quantified the size of the movement and its resulting changes in income and productivity through intensive empirical study. Clark was a master of data assembly, possessing an uncanny ability to draw elegant and simple conclusions" (ODNB). Clark's works on national income were landmarks in national accounting; his estimates were greatly relied on by Keynes. Octavo. Original blue cloth, spine lettered in gilt. With dust jacket. Blindstamp of Roy Stuttard to front free endpaper; ink stamps "Research Dept." to front panel of jacket and to front free endaper; inked inscription dated 1989 to front pastedown. A fine copy, in near-fine jacket, light toning and soiling, minor rubbing at extremities.
