First edition, first impression, of Rowling's first pseudonymous book, introducing Cormoran Strike. A media frenzy followed the discovery of her role as author three months after publication. Rowling stated that "being Robert Galbraith has been such a liberating experience. It has been wonderful to publish without hype and expectation and pure pleasure to get feedback under a different name". Errington A17(a). Richard Brooks, "Whodunnit? JK Rowling's secret life as wizard crime writer revealed", Sunday Times, 14 July 2013. Octavo. Original dark blue boards, spine lettered in gilt. With dust jacket. Bright, unclipped jacket with light edge rubbing: a fine copy in near-fine jacket. Seller Inventory # 174097

Uncorrected proof copy. Proof copies of Rowling's first pseudonymously published crime novel are comparatively rare: Errington failed to consult one for his bibliography. It had not been Rowling's intention for her authorship to be revealed only three months after publication, and this proof copy is part of the elaborate bibliographical history of the first novel in the Cormoran Strike series. The novel was accepted by the publishers "entirely on its own merits" (Errington, p. 576). It was assumed to be a first novel by an unpublished author, however, the proof reveals that the publishers intended "an international publicity campaign". Errington records the view of the publisher that they would "usually do two or three hundred [proof copies] and those would go out for review purposes and to booksellers." Errington AA5(a). Octavo. Original pictorial wrappers lettered in yellow and white. Extremities of wrappers a little rubbed, joints a little worn: a near-fine copy. Seller Inventory # 166652
