FIRST EDITION. The odd spot, occasional pencil underlining. Contemp. half brown calf, black morocco label, raised bands; extremities somewhat rubbed. Ink inscription of Lady P--(?) Fitzwm Square, Dublin, on leading pastedown; faded ink inscription on title. A nice copy. Glover & Greene 338. Copac lists BL, Oxford, Cambridge, & NLW. The Detective's Note-Book has fourteen stories, including 'The Forger's Cypher', 'The Closest Shave of My Life', 'Hanged by the Neck', and 'The Wrong Burglar'. Thomas Delf, 1811-1865, was a publisher, translator, and writer who wrote two volumes of detective stories and various non-fiction works on printing and painting.
