First UK Edition. Recently rebound in attractive half-leather with title in gilt to the spine, yellow end-papers. Speckled edges. VG indeed with clean interior. apart from some minor darkening to the edge of the title page. Charles Martel was a pseudonym for the literary hack, Thomas Delf. 14 detective case stories including: The Forgers Cipher, The Ebony Box, The Marked Money and How Sergeant Bolter's Prisoner Escaped. Front board has dirty marks over two thirds of area, three gatherings slightly sprung at fore-edge, staining/foxing to prelims., and first chapter at inner margin. Rear free endpaper torn out carelessly, which took part of margin of last page with it: no text missing. Slight cracking to hinge at title page, but binding generally sound.
