[Strange Tale] FIRST EDITION, first impression. Octavo (20 x 13cm), pp.256 [8]. Publisher's dark blue cloth binding with gilt titles to spine. Top edge gilt, others untrimmed. Presented in a black quarter morocco clamshell box, with raised bands, gilt titles and ruling to spine, and navy cloth over sides. Toned throughout, as usual, with some spotting to endpapers and tender hinges. Light wear and bumping to cloth, with a nick to the spine. Box shows some marks and rubbing to spine. Very good. The tale of Raffles Haw, an eccentric modern alchemist who becomes a billionaire and corrupts the community he wants to help. Somewhat of a romantic tragedy, with parallels to Robert Louis Stevenson's Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde. Green and Gibson, 'A Bibliography of A. Conan Doyle', A9.
