He writes on subjects from the mathematics of probability to the management of a business office" (Tomash & Williams). The Essay was issued as part of Dionysius Lardner's Cabinet Cyclopaedia. An accomplished historian and logician, De Morgan (1806-1871) also contributed to the Penny Cyclopaedia and the Encyclopedia Metropolitana, and wrote for the Society for the Diffusion of Useful Knowledge. Contemporary red half roan, spine lettered and ruled in gilt, 5 raised bands, blue marbled sides and endpapers, top edge gilt, the rest uncut. Extremities worn, a handful of faint marks to leather and edges, front inner hinge starting but holding firm, foxing to engraved title page: in very good condition.
