The first edition in English of Antoine de Ricouart dâ HĂ rouville de Claye's (1713-1782) MĂ moires sur l'infanterie, ou TraitĂ des lĂ gions (1753), here falsely attributed to his superior, military commander Maurice de Saxe (1697-1750), in which is proposed a reorganisation of the French army on the model of the Roman legions. An influential treatise, a copy of this edition was notably owned by George Washington.
