A first edition, first printing of 'Flashman', published by Herbert Jenkins, London in 1969. A fine book, boards bound in publisher's original scarlet cloth with silver titles to the spine, with bumping to the spine tips, without inscriptions, mild spotting to the page edges. In the fine unclipped wrapper with only the slightest fading to the spine and the best we have seen for a while. Flashman by George MacDonald Fraser is a historical novel that introduces the roguish Harry Flashman, a cowardly, self-serving bully who stumbles into fame and military glory. Set in the 19th century, the book follows Flashman's misadventures during the First Anglo-Afghan War. Told through his supposed memoirs, it satirises Victorian heroism with wit and irony. Despite his flaws, Flashman's charm and candid narration make him a compelling antihero in this clever blend of fiction and history. Seller Inventory # 23475
