He was dubbed "the god-father of pop surrealism" by Interview magazine. In 2015, Artnet named Ryden and his wife, painter Marion Peck, the king and queen of Pop Surrealism. The paintings shown in this book might be said to contain a nightmarish quality, or at least are somewhat unsettling. PIE Books, founded in August 1985, became PIE International as of November 2008.
