Hardcover. Condition: Good. Hardcover, no dust jacket. Bound in navy blue cloth with gold lettering to the front cover. Dated 1926 on the title page. 100 pages. Good condition. Binding is snug and square. Some faint sunning and bumping to the spine. No rubbing or major wear. Pages toned, with foxing to the endpapers. An ex-library copy from the Ship's Library. Ex-library markings to the fore-edge and front endpapers. A library reference card pasted to the front free endpaper. No other notes or writing to be found. Overall good condition. This book is from the collection of Thomas Lovejoy. Dr. Lovejoy was an influential ecologist, field biologist, and activist; former head of the Amazon Biodiversity Center, World Wildlife Fund, and advisor to the United Nations and Smithsonian Institution. He is credited with introducing the term 'biological diversity' to the mainstream environmental movement. In addition, he was a passionate collector of books on the natural world. Grabham (1840-1935) was a doctor who settled in Madeira for over seventy years. In his early days there, sufferers from tuberculosis formed the majority of his patients but, with the increase in the island's popularity, for which his own booklet on its climate and resources, published in 1865, was partly responsible, his clientele came to include all categories of invalids and convalescents from Europe.
