[Thrillers] An omnibus edition comprising Casino Royale, From Russia, With Love and Doctor No. Large octavo (22 x 15cm), pp.256; [2], blank. Stated 'First Edition', with the depression mark to the rear board denoting the Book Club issue (as the vast majority seem to be). Publisher's cloth-covered boards, in original jacket. Some edge wear to jacket, frayed to spine ends, one chip to crown. Spine colouring remains quite strong on this one- the deep blue background is notorious for fading to a light blue. This is the VARIANT BINDING with a grey cloth backstrip; most copies are noted with a light blue cloth spine. See bibliography, page 551. Rather scarce thus. Gilbert E1. Seller Inventory # 61682

[Thrillers] Comprising Casino Royale, From Russia, With Love and Doctor No. FIRST OMNIBUS EDITION, UNCORRECTED PROOF COPY ("Publication Date Jul 24 1961" stamped on title-page). Bibliographer's copy (pencil ownership within). Large octavo (22 x 15cm), pp.256; [4], blank., sewn gatherings with white endpapers, illustrated dust-jacket. Some browning throughout, front endpapers with first leaf detached, dust-jacket worn and soiled with several tears and some loss, clipped as usual. As noted by Jon Gilbert this was "the first James Bond omnibus to be published, and likely the most important." Gilbert notes of the proof that "no copy has appeared at auction, according to current book auction records". The present copy surfaced in 2020 following publication of the bibliography (2012) and the new edition (2017), and has been part of the bibliographical archive since. In essence, it is the only recorded copy. Gilbert E1 (Uncorrected Proof Copies). Seller Inventory # 70940
