Rather than attempt a "Complete History of New Orleans Rhythm and Blues," which was ably covered in the scope of John Broven's WALKIN TO NEW ORLEANS, hopefully this collection of profiles will show a historical perspective. I apologize in advance for omissions, but circumstances have prevented me from including every key artist; hopefully they can be included in a second volume. Also the duplication of the material was unavoidable at times. Rather than choose to view this as a flaw, the gracious reader will use this information to interelate the stories.

Lastly, more important than any story or any book, is The Music. If this book causes you to go out and listen to one of these artists or to go and buy one of their records, then this book has served its purpose.
