Quarto, two volumes, xlviii, 372 and xvi, 419 pages with a total of 49 line illustrations plus 2 frontispieces and 12 colour plates from watercolours (each with a captioned tissue-guard), 204 pages of plates (including 4 double-page) and 3 folding maps and a folding panorama in an endpocket (lacking the errata slip in the second volume). Silver-pictorial cloth, top edges gilt, others uncut; covers a little rubbed, marked and bumped; spines sunned, with a few short tears at either end; minimal damp stains to the bottom edges of the covers, with the cloth on the bottom edge of the rear board of the second volume a little worn; endpapers a little marked; scattered light foxing; recto of the frontispieces discoloured; small light tidemark to the bottom margin of half a dozen plates (and leaves) in the first volume; two folding maps a little discoloured on the versos; one folding map and the folding panorama a little creased; ownership stamp on the margin of one page in the first volume, and five pages in the second one (which also has different ownership details in ink on the front free endpaper); minor signs of age and use; overall, a very presentable set.
