Reigate High School bookplates, some light browning, original silver lettered blue cloth with silver ills. to upper boards, some sl. soiling and wear, corners bumped, spines faded and chipped, joints started to fray with repaired tears to spine of vol. 1., t.e.g. Arctic Bibliography 317.The story of Shackleton's attempt to reach the Pole using ponies for the first time instead of dogs. Silver-pictorial cloth, top edges gilt, others uncut; covers a little rubbed, marked and bumped; spines sunned, with a few short tears at either end; minimal damp stains to the bottom edges of the covers, with the cloth on the bottom edge of the rear board of the second volume a little worn; endpapers a little marked; scattered light foxing; recto of the frontispieces discoloured; small light tidemark to the bottom margin of half a dozen plates (and leaves) in the first volume; two folding maps a little discoloured on the versos; one folding map and the folding panorama a little creased; ownership stamp on the margin of one page in the first volume, and five pages in the second one (which also has different ownership details in ink on the front free endpaper); minor signs of age and use; overall, a very presentable set.
