Volume I containing the history and description of land birds, first edition, 1797, xxx, 335pp, advert at rear for the third edition of A General History of Quadrupeds, printed by Sol Hodgson for Beily & Bewick and sold by them and C G and J Robinson, London; Volume II containing the history and description of water birds, 1804, xx, 400pp; printed by Edward Walker for T Bewick, sold by him and Longman and Rees, London; illustrated with engravings by Thomas Bewick through the text, there is some offsetting from the illustrations, very occasional foxing, the pages are nice and crisp, brown endpapers with ink gift inscriptions dated 1846 to both front free endpapers, armorial bookplate to pastedown of first volume, half calf and marbled boards, spine recently repaired with strips of cloth to front hinges in both volumes, leather of corners rather rubbed and worn, spine has raised bands and gilt lettering on a maroon panel, a very lovely set.
