About this Item
First edition of this report, issued by the League of Arab States, illustrating the atrocities committed by the Israeli army across Palestine. The Israelis' aim, the report states, was "the displacement of the greatest number of Palestinian Arabs" during the establishment of the Green Line in 1949, and "the spreading of disturbances in the Middle East" after these armistice agreements, "to convince the world, which was eager to establish peace in the Middle East, that such a peace could only be secured from the Arabs by force and by pressure". It provides accounts of 42 major Israeli attacks in 1948-1956, including on Deir Yassin, Nasiruddin, Wadi Araba, Kafr Qasim, Hebron, Sharafat Village, Khirbet al-Najjar, Khan Yunis, and Gaza. The detailed photo-reportage of the corpses and destruction inflicted on the population sought to convey to an international audience, at a time before the spread of television news, the widespread violence perpetrated in Palestine. Octavo (240 x 173 mm). Half-tone photographic illustrations. Original printed wrappers, wire-stitched. Wrappers a bit soiled, extremities rubbed, couple of tears along spine, light water stain extending from upper margin of front wrapper, touching upper margin of first 20 leaves, contents toned, small crease to upper outer corner of initial leaves, long clean tear on p. 161 repaired with archival tape: a very good copy.
