FIRST ENGLISH EDITION. 8vo. (22 x 14 cm). pp.251+[1, colophon]+[2, ads]. Publisher's original green cloth, upper cover with blind-stamped title, spine lettered in gilt. 16 black & white photographic plates including frontispiece. Cloth a bit rubbed along extremities, small damp stain to front boards, slight lean to spine, occasional light scattered foxing throughout. "My Journey Down the Tigris: A Raft-Voyage Through Dead Kingdoms" is a historic travel book written by Swiss art historian Samuel Guyer (1879–1950) which chronicles his expedition down the Tigris River using a traditional raft (a keleke). As an archaeologist and art historian, Guyer's travel writing focuses heavily on the ruins, monuments, and landscapes of the ancient empires—the "dead kingdoms"—that once flourished along the riverbanks of Mesopotamia.
