Ottimo esemplare, rarissimo nella sua brossura originale, soprattutto in queste condizioni (da segnalare solo: dorso reincollato; brunitura da adesione di un ex libris alle prima carte; fioriture molto leggere alle carte, complessivamente molto fresco e pulito). Benché appaia in volume solo nel 1908, sull onda del successo del «Fu Mattia Pascal», «L esclusa» è il primo romanzo composto da Luigi Pirandello. Scritto nel 1893, fu pubblicato originariamente sulle colonne della «Tribuna» nel 1901 (prima cioè del «Turno»). Importante lettera prefatoria a Luigi Capuana, ispiratore dell opera. -- «Indirizzato da Luigi Capuana sulla via della prosa, scrisse, nell estate 1893, il primo romanzo, "Marta Ajala", storia di una donna siciliana cacciata di casa dal marito per un adulterio non commesso e riaccolta quando invece il "fatto" è accaduto. Nato sotto il segno della novella "Ribrezzo" e del romanzo "Giacinta" di Capuana, il romanzo, con il titolo "L esclusa", fu pubblicato solo nel 1901 a puntate nella "Tribuna" e in volume da Treves (Milano 1908), con una lettera dedicatoria a Capuana che ne sottolineava l originale carattere umoristico, sotteso alla rappresentazione oggettiva di casi e persone: lettera poi soppressa nella riveduta edizione Bemporad (Firenze 1927)» (Simona Costa, voce DBI, 2015). -- Il libro è oggi molto raro. in 16°, brossura originale stampata in rosso e nero al piatto anteriore e al dorso e in nero al piatto posteriore, pp. VII [1] 310 [10 di catalogo editoriale].
