Small 8vo. Hardcover. Pp. 108. First Edition. In very good condition; brown cloth binding with gilt title on cover and spine. Some shelf-wear to the cover including marks and scratches, with light bumping to the corners. Additional rubbing at top and bottom of spine, and along the edges. Pages themselves are clean and unmarked with light foxing. Front end-paper is loose, and pencil inscription at the top of the title page. 'Bland's Magical Palace' plate pasted on title page. With adverts at the back. A scarce 1st Edition of August Roterberg's second book, being the sequel to 'The Modern Wizard'; Roterberg came to America from Germany in 1883, eventually opening a magic store in Chicago - he is credited with starting the modern era of magic publishing. His books were the first in English, written expressly for magicians. Roterberg's books were published by a magic dealer specifically for sale in magical depots, rather than for wide distribution to the general public. Roterberg is best known as a magic inventor and is credited with inventing the "Multiplying Billiard Balls", Seller Inventory # 036581
