Contemporary gilt-tooled dark green morocco, with supralibros of the Law Society of England and Wales to upper board, and contrasting brown morocco lettering-piece to spine, T.E.G., gilt dentelles, marbled endpapers. Rubbed and marked, with surface wear to extremities, spine sunned. Prize bookplate presented by the Incorporated Law Society to Mr. John Prentice Ashbridge to FEP. Light spotting and staining throughout, particularly to plates. The first edition of three private lectures on landscape painting delivered by English art critic John Ruskin (1819-1900) to his undergraduate class at Oxford on January 20, February 9, and February 23, 1871, lavishly illustrated with over 20 colour plates bearing fine examples of the art.
