Item description from seller

A large ledger, approx. 35 x 23 x 9cm., 1166 pages numbered by hand, comprising approx. 170 documents, most MS but some typescript, unpaginated MS index listing documents alphabetically by type; minor age-toning to a few documents, but overall in good condition, the ledger in original roan-backed boards, bookbinder's label of Caldwell Brothers Edinburgh, gilt, heavily rubbed on joints. The Edinburgh solicitors Campbell, Martin and Boswell were based at 1 North Charlotte Street, Edinburgh. This Letter Book contains documents relating to the Dalquharran Castle and Kennedy Estate (in relation to Francis Thomas Romilly Kennedy, 1842-1892), numerous other individuals, notably the great-great-grandson and namesake of Robert Burns 1844-96, but also MPs, merchants, and trades. A fascinating record of Edinburgh society in 1893.
