A superb collection, built up over many years, of books and manuscripts relating to early Jesuit and other European contacts with China, Japan and the Philippines. As Robinson states in his introduction to the catalogue, this was a field "where extreme rarity was the norm, and the term unique frequent". Philip Robinson, with his brother Lionel, had in the 1940s pulled off "the greatest bookselling coup of all time" by acquiring the collection of Sir Thomas Phillipps. Very Good.
