Crown8vo, tinted portrait frontis, vi, 327; photo frontis, [iv], 340, [32] pp. Original black cloth with horizontal red lines, gilt, dark green endpapers. Tissue guards to the frontispieces foxed otherwise VG+ tight and clean copy with the elaborate bookplate of Violet Isabel Martineau on both front pastedowns. Notes in pencil by Martineau on the recto of both rear free endpapers detailing when she read the book over a period of 45 years and genealogical details of the Edgeworths. "Violet Martineau from Maurice Christmas 1896 Park Corner" on a front blank of Vol 1 and the verso of the half title of Vol. 2. First edition.
