About this Item

Description:

Arendt's final work, unfinished in her lifetime and published posthumously, The Life of the Mind was intended as a parallel to Arendt's work on vita activa or the 'active life', as outlined in The Human Condition, to be formed of three parts to correspond with the three fundamental faculties of the vita contemplativa or the 'contemplative life': Thinking, Willing, and Judging. The second part, Willing, was completed a matter of days before Arendt's sudden death in 1975, leaving the third and final part on Judging ultimately unfinished. . Seller Inventory # 252667

Hardcover. Condition: Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good+. 2-volume set with dustjackets and the original slipcase, not first printings, probably second printings, both books are in excellent condition with mild edge-creases at tops of the cloth spines being the only remarkable flaws, both jackets have moderate rubbing to the glossy surfaces, in addition, Volume 1 has two tiny edge-tears at bottom of spine and one tiny edge-tear at the bottom of the rear panel, it wasn't a good idea to place a professional (removable) mylar cover on both jackets because they would fit too tightly into the slipcase, instead we placed a cover on Volume 1 only which is a good fit and will serve to protect the short edge-tears on this volume, the slipcase is in VG condition, surface rubbing on the glossy front and back and minor edge-wear at the corners with a small amount of loss at the bottom of one corner, the slipcase is clean and presentable, the books and jackets look great, "This two-volume analysis of man's mental activity is Hannah Arendt's last work. It may be seen as her legacy to our own and future generations". Seller Inventory # 055466
