Octavo (23 x 15 x 11cm), pp.[2] 423 [3]; pp.[2] 352 [2]; pp.[2] 416 [2]. With maps at the rear of each volume. Exquisitely bound in red full morocco, with gilt titles and decoration to spines, a gilt Tolkien monogram to upper board of each volume, all edges gilt, and black endpapers. Housed in a black cloth-covered slipcase. All volumes trimmed for binding. A hint of spotting to title and facing pages of 'Two Towers', with occasional minor spots and reading marks within, no significant defects. Presented in an attractive new leather binding. A fantastical trilogy, "The Lord of the Rings" is one of the greatest books of the twentieth century, containing amazing details of a new mythology, never really surpassed. Basis for the epic film series directed by Peter Jackson, 'The Return' (2003) winning a record 11 Oscars from 11 nominations.
