FIRST EDITION. Half title, front., plates, one moving plate sl. torn, 4pp ads; copper plates foxed. Orig. dark brown fine-grained embossed cloth, spine lettered in gilt; some wear to head of spine, corners bumped. Library stamp on title & one plate. Scarce in commerce; the last copy sold at auction in 2001. 'Plate A' is an unusual moving plate that tackles the issue of perspective: 'To determine the section of the interposed plate, or plane of the picture, with the rays which proceed from the object to the eye.' The plate is printed on card with a folding flap, an applied piece of gauze screen and two sets of threads, one in green, the other in red.
