Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This book offers a compelling and detailed account of the Union Cavalryââ â¢s role in the Western Theater of the American Civil War. The author, a veteran of those campaigns, presents a vivid firsthand perspective on the crucial role of cavalry in shaping the course of the war, particularly in contrast to its less effective deployment in the East. The book explores the evolution of cavalry tactics and strategy, tracing the development of larger, more independent cavalry units, which proved critical in gaining intelligence and disrupting enemy movements. The author emphasizes the importance of cavalry in providing essential information and disrupting enemy supply lines, highlighting the distinct advantages these units offered in the Western campaign. Through a combination of personal narratives, official reports, and detailed descriptions of key battles and skirmishes, the book sheds light on the bravery and skill of the cavalrymen who fought in the West, and ultimately helped secure the Union victory.
