First edition. Small octavo, pp 121 + 7 pages publisher's adverts at rear. Frontispiece photo portrait of the author. Bound in red cloth covered hard boards and in the original publisher s dust jacket, un-clipped (3s 6d net). Frederick Soddy was awarded the Nobel Prize for Chemistry in 1921 for his work on radioactive substances and isotopes; he began writing on economics thereafter. He was largely dismissed at the time he wrote his four books on economics, though many of his ideas, including floating exchange rates, abandoning the gold standard, and using federal surpluses and deficits for macroeconomic policy are the accepted norm today. He also believed that the real economy would ultimately be hampered by the exhaustible supply of fossil fuels, an idea which has brought him back into fashion more recently, and he is regarded as an early ecological economist. Book is in Fine condition, jacket has the slightest of tanning to the spine, just about Fine. A lovely copy.
