Gilbreth and his wife, the psychoanalyst Lillian Gilbreth, who also worked in the field of motion control, sought improvements that would benefit workers directly. In contrast, Frederick Winslow Taylor, Gilbreth's long-term colleague, sought to increase speed and profit for firms through motion control studies. A British issue was published simultaneously.
