This issue of The Movement memorializes Fred Hampton, Black Panther leader who was assassinated by the Chicago Police Department and the FBI. An informant had infiltrated Hampton's inner circle, and drugged him with barbiturates the night his apartment was to be raided by the police. Hampton lay unconscious and sedated in his bed and was shot twice in the head, and another Panther was also killed at the onset of the raid where over 90 rounds were fired by police. Hampton's assassination was one of the most flagrantly extralegal killings in modern American history. Inside is a transcription of one of his most notable speeches and a song dedicated to him on the last page. Hampton says in his speech: "You can jail a revolutionary, but you can't jail the revolution. You can run a freedom fighter around the country but you can't run freedom fighting out the country. You can murder a liberator, but you can't murder liberation." It also has an extensive interview with steelworkers on strike, an essay denouncing pacifism and the Peace Corps as tools of bourgeois imperialism, and more.
