The brewries described in this volume are Guinness at St. James Gate, Dublin; Bass and Co.; Allsopp and Sons; Truman, Hanbury, Buxton and Co.; Barclay, Perkins and Co.; Combe and Co.; Anchor Brewery; Abbey Brewery; Watney and Co.; Mann, Crossman & Paulin; Worthington and Co. and Crown Maltings. Alfred Barnard, after having wisited 162 Whiskey disitilleries in Britain in order to publish a book, embarked on a similar tour on breweries, which resulted in the work, of which separate printings of certain chapters have been produced, usually for the owners and sharholders of the businesses. - What Grimsby had was certainly not a micro-brewery; the malt industry was impressive, with companies running their own steamers for barley import.
