[Politics / conflict /trade] FIRST EDITION. Octavo pamphlet (23 x 15cm), pp.62. Bound in simple drab wraps, sewn at spine. Damp-staining at margins, covers chipped. James Bowdoin III (1752-1811) was a Bostonian philanthropist and statesman, educated at Harvard and Oxford, later U.S Ambassador to Spain. Like James Madison and others, he was critical of the Jay Treaty, believing it more favourable to the British' in response he called for America to pass its own "navigation act" to redress the balance of punitive British trade practices.
