Second and updated edition, first printing, of this scarce illustrated handbook for foreign tourists and business travellers in British Malaya. WorldCat records no copies in UK libraries, with the British Library and the LSE holding only the 1928 third edition. This detailed guidebook, first published in 1914, includes plans of major destinations including Kuala Lumpur and Singapore, as well as an attractive map of the peninsula's rail network complete with a table of distances. Alongside the usual notes on places of interest and period advertisements, it provides specimen tourist itineraries, economic and demographic data, and a bibliography for further reading. Square quarto. With 5 tissue-guarded colour plates after watercolours by M. Barnard, 7 folding heliozincograph town plans, 2 similar folding colour maps of Malay Peninsula and global trade routes, illustrations and advertisements in text. Original yellow illustrated card wrappers, covers lettered in black. Spine consolidated with adhesive and small loss at foot, covers bright with light soiling and couple of nicks, maps and plates fresh. A very good copy.
