Section A considers the pattern of publication 1800-1919 as it is revealed in yearly publication figures taken from a variety of sources. Section B concerns itself with seasonal variations in the annual cycle by looking at the total production of each decade distributed on a monthly pattern. Section C touches on the changes in the numbers of different types of books as recorded by various trade journals scattered throughout the period. Section D considers the price structure of publications listed in the same journals. Section E is occupied with looking at the sorts of data available for periodicals during the period, and attempting to see if any trends can be deduced from them. Section F looks at various sources which give us some idea of the economic and cultural context into which we must fit the patterns discussed in the preceding five Sections.
