Item description from seller

First edition, first printing, recorded in two institutions only. Finlinson served as a captain in the Gloucestershire Regiment during the Mesopotamia Campaign and offers his drawings to comrades and friends back home. "It is only in consequence of our army's victories that we are now able to scrutinise more closely the little towns and villages which nestle on the banks of the Tigris and of the Shatt-el-Arab" (foreword). Copies are held by the British Library and Palomar Community College. Landscape folio. With 16 tipped-in plates (some with hand colouring), illustrations and map in text. Original grey wrappers, wire-stitched as issued, front cover printed in black with mounted illustration. Toning and creasing to wrappers, browning internally: a very good copy of a fragile work.
