The material for the first part was collected and written by John C. Baird. The work began in 1908 as several contributions were solicited by mail from pioneer settlers living in all parts of the state. The second part is contributed by the author while he was taking a year's course of study at Kansas State University in 1922 and '23. Much on pioneer settlers and their families, early days in the area, Indian depredations, buffalo hunting, ranching, outlaws and lawmen, Custer and the Little Big Horn, battles, railroads, etc. Six Guns 1884 says "Scarce."
