Add to basketFirst edition - the dedication copy, inscribed on the front free endpaper: "Laurie with much love from Cecil Oct./48. `The wind is rising, we must try to live'". The quotation is from Paul Valry's Le Cimitire Marin, Day Lewis's translation of which is included in the contents. (The original French version of the line is one of the epigraphs on the title-page.) The printed dedication is "To Laurie Lee". Light foxing to endpapers but a very good copy in faded, chipped and rubbed dustwrapper missing a substantial piece from lower panel (not affecting text).
