First UK Edition and first hardcover edition (the US first edition called Smoky Valley was published in the same year in softcover by Dell). A VG copy with clean and bright boards with some offsetting to the end-papers. The D/W has a shallow chip at the head of the spine (not affecting any lettering), some very slight creasing to the extremities and some age-soiling to the rear panel. The basis for the Columbia Pictures film of the same year starring Glenn Ford and co-starring Barbara Stanwyk, Edward G Robinson, Brian Keith, Dianne Foster and May Wynn. Super photographic-style D/W featuring Glenn Ford as John Parrish. A very scarce book.
