About this Item
(Milk Marketing Board 1949). First Edition. Contains 8 delightful lithographs by Barnett Freedman the famous British painter, commercial designer, book illustrator, typographer, and lithographer. Plain card wrappers in fabric-faced pictorial D/W. A fine copy in a near fine (or better) pictorial D/W with a neat name at the top right hand corner of the front flap. This lovely book was commissioned in 1939 to promote the cheese industry in the UK and was written and illustrated by Barnett Freedman, it was eventually published in 1949 by the Milk Marketing Board. Laid in is a small typed note headed up: REAL FARMHOUSE CHEESE: "This booklet, telling something of the interesting cheeses which are made in English and Welsh farmhouses, is presented with the compliments of the National Dairy Council. It was originally produced in 1939 but its contents are still of very real interest today. Two points should be made however. There is no longer a 'National Mark' for cheese - a new system of grading has been introduced - and Stilton cheese is now made in creameries. Also laid in is a colour postcard (No 7a in a series published by the National Milk Publicity Council) entitled: "How cheese is made from pure fresh Milk". A lovely copy an exceedingly uncommon with these attributes. Seller Inventory # 355490716621
