Delicious recipes from the Baron, Lord Bacon, Miss Di Gester et al. with a few specially contributed by Mrs. Cottington Taylor. Very scarce. In 1922 Sayers joined S. H. Benson, then Britain's largest advertising agency as a copywriter and was responsible for existing accounts such as Bile Beans, Bovril, Monk and Glass et.al. In 1925 the artist John Gilroy also joined Benson's which was probably the year she met the Scottish journalist Atherton Fleming "Mac" whom she married in 1926. "Mac" was passionate about every aspect of food and drink and had, over many years, amassed a huge collection of cookery books and gastronomic lore of all kinds and description so it is inconceivable that he was not a major part in the creation of The Mustard Club for the Colman's Mustard account. This was a huge success both for Benson's and Colman's exploding all over the country with posters on London buses, advertisements in the national papers, the famous slogan "Has Father Joined the Mustard Club?" the Password "Pass the Mustard, please!" , and Motto "Mustard Makyth Methuselahs", Guest Nights at the Mustard Club programme every Tuesday at 7.00pm on Radio Luxembourg as well as packs of playing cards produced by Chad Valley all with illustrations by Gilroy, an enamel gilt badge and, of course, the two recipe books. This continued for seven years although Sayers left Benson's in 1930 to concentrate on her successful career as a crime writer; Fleming wrote articles for the London Evening News, the Sunday Chronicle and one of the most vibrant and engaging food books of the pre-WWII era: The Book of Food and Drink by Gourmet published in 1933 by John Lane The Bodley Head with cartoon illustrations by Hendy.
