FIRST UK EDITION. Octavo, pp.208. Bound in publisher's navy cloth with silver titles to spine, in a brown paper dustjacket with stylised title. Fairly clean throughout, generally a little aged with light spotting in places. Cloth is near-fine. Dustjacket also near-fine, with one closed chip to rear panel and one small mark to spine panel. Damon Runyon was best known for his Prohibition-era short stories, celebrating the world of Broadway in New York City. His characters were so influential that they inspired the term "Runyonesque", referring to any type of humorous narrative following gamblers, hustlers, actors, and gangsters. Runyon's fictional world provided the basis for the hit musical, 'Guys and Dolls'. Seller Inventory # 45877
