Item description from seller

First edition, first printing. Original blue cloth with white titles to the spine, in the Edward Ardizzone illustrated dustwrapper. With three black and white illustrations by Ardizzone. A better than very good copy, the binding square and firm with slight bumping to the corners, the cloth bright and fresh. The contents, with small creases to the corners of a few late pages, the contents are otherwise clean throughout and without inscriptions or stamps. Complete with the lightly rubbed dustwrapper that has a few short closed tears at the folds and is a little faded to the spine. Not price-clipped (8s. 6d. on the front flap). Scarce. A comic novel about a group of women and children fleeing England in a tramp steamer during World War II. The third collaboration between Hazel Pynegar and Noel Langley, one of the screenwriters of 'The Wizard of Oz'. Illustrated by the Kate Greenaway Medal-winning illustrator and war artist Edward Ardizzone. Ardizzone later illustrated Langley's 'The Land of Green Ginger' in 1966, which became one of his classic works. Further details and images for any of the items listed are available on request.
